Job Description
The Senior Payroll Specialist is responsible for end-to-end ownership of India payroll operations, ensuring accurate, timely, and fully compliant payroll delivery across assigned India entities. Operating within S&P Global Global Pay Services operating model, this role provides deep subject-matter expertise, statutory governance support, and control oversight for India payroll. The specialist acts as a senior escalation point for complex payroll, statutory, and compliance matters, partnering closely with People Services, Finance, Tax, Mobility, and external payroll vendors, while playing a key role in payroll governance, risk mitigation, process optimization, and transformation initiatives without direct people management duties. Core responsibilities include owning and executing monthly India payroll processing across legal entities, encompassing regular payroll, bonuses, off-cycle payrolls, leave encashments, arrears, recoveries, and full and final settlements. The role requires detailed payroll reviews, variance analysis, exception handling, and sign-off readiness checks prior to approvals within cut-off timelines. You will own compliance execution for Indian payroll statutory requirements including Income Tax, TDS on salary, quarterly withholding tax returns, annual tax forms, Provident Fund, EPFO UAN lifecycle, ECR filings, ESIC, Professional Tax, and Labour Welfare Fund. Duties also cover managing annual activities like investment declaration windows, proof verification, tax recalculations, and handling statutory notices and regulatory audits. Furthermore, the role involves partnering with Finance for accurate payroll GL postings, accruals, and reconciliations, supporting SOX audits, maintaining payroll data accuracy in Workday, and contributing to automation, process improvements, and new Labour Code readiness using tools such as Power BI, Power Automate, and advanced analytics.
