The organization is seeking a Payroll Lead – India to join its Payroll Shared Services team in Bangalore. This is an individual contributor role responsible for owning India payroll processes while collaborating with multiple business functions and driving process improvements.
The role involves managing payroll operations across a portfolio of global countries including India, APAC, EMEA, and other regions through outsourced payroll providers. Responsibilities include ensuring payrolls are processed accurately, compliantly, and on time while reviewing and validating payroll inputs such as new hires, employee exits, variable compensation, benefits and deductions, reimbursements, and statutory changes.
The incumbent will perform payroll reconciliations and variance analysis, manage payroll calendars and processing milestones, oversee payroll vendor performance and service delivery, and ensure accurate reporting and taxation of equity compensation and employee benefits.
Additional responsibilities include supporting employee lifecycle payroll activities such as onboarding, transfers, expatriate movements, full and final settlements, and offboarding. The role also requires resolving employee payroll queries and collaborating with global payroll teams, HR Technology teams, and external payroll providers to enhance systems and service delivery. Opportunities to leverage automation, analytics, and AI-enabled payroll solutions are also part of the role.
As a subject matter expert for payroll regulations and statutory compliance, the candidate will ensure adherence to payroll legislation, tax regulations, and statutory obligations across assigned countries. Strong knowledge of India payroll regulations including Provident Fund (PF), Employee State Insurance (ESI), Professional Tax (PT), Income Tax, and labour laws is required.
The role includes overseeing payroll tax filings, statutory submissions, regulatory reporting, maintaining governance frameworks, audit-ready documentation, supporting internal and external audits including SOX compliance, identifying payroll risks, and implementing effective controls.
Stakeholder management responsibilities involve serving as the primary point of contact for payroll matters and partnering closely with HR, Finance, Tax, Legal, HR Technology teams, and payroll providers. The incumbent will also support finance teams with payroll accruals, forecasting, budgeting, and reporting activities.
Reporting and continuous improvement activities include preparing payroll and compliance reports, conducting payroll validations and risk assessments, performing audits and quality checks, investigating discrepancies, driving process standardization, automation, and payroll transformation initiatives, and maintaining process documentation and control frameworks.
