The APAC Payroll Specialist will be responsible for overseeing payroll operations and ensuring accurate and timely payment to employees. The role focuses on end-to-end processing of Japan monthly and yearly payroll activities and requires expertise in payroll administration, statutory compliance, vendor management, and employee support. Japan language proficiency at N1 level is mandatory for this position.
Responsibilities include end-to-end processing of Japan payroll, maintaining payroll records for joiners, leavers, and employee changes, updating payroll master data, and responding to payroll-related queries from employees and management. The selected candidate will process monthly and annual payroll reporting, support statutory reporting requirements with tax offices and pension authorities, and provide payroll accounting data for finance teams.
The role includes ensuring statutory payments and filings are completed within required timelines, preparing GL files, reconciliations, payroll reports, and supporting internal deliverables. The candidate will process payroll-related allowances, deductions, bonuses, merit cycles, variable wage components, employee stock option plan reporting, leave management, and payroll support for international assignees and expatriate shadow payrolls.
Additional responsibilities include importing and exporting payroll interface files, resolving payroll issues, maintaining SOX and operational controls, and ensuring compliance with local country regulations. The Payroll Specialist will manage outsourced payroll vendors, monitor contractual performance, track KPIs, handle issue escalations, and conduct SLA review meetings.
The role requires proactive engagement with internal stakeholders to understand business needs, communicate changes, collect feedback, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. The selected candidate will support payroll process enhancements, employee-centric improvements, change management initiatives, and collaboration with diverse cross-functional teams across multiple geographies.
The ideal candidate should possess strong payroll legislation knowledge, payroll systems experience, numerical and analytical skills, attention to detail, customer service orientation, organizational skills, and experience working within a shared services environment. Experience with Workday, ServiceNow, payroll vendor transition projects, and international payroll operations will be highly advantageous.
