Job Description
Seven Islands Shipping Ltd. is hiring a Sourcing Officer (Ratings) to support vessel manning requirements through effective sourcing, screening, documentation verification and deployment planning of marine ratings. The role is responsible for ensuring the timely availability of qualified and compliant seafarers while maintaining an active talent pipeline to meet operational and business requirements.
The selected candidate will source suitable ratings through databases, references, maritime institutes, recruitment agencies and professional networks. Responsibilities include ensuring timely sourcing of relievers for ratings due for sign-off, maintaining a pool of qualified ratings for urgent and planned vessel requirements, coordinating with the Crewing Team for crew change planning and deployment schedules, monitoring crew availability and ensuring timely submission of candidates for approval.
The role requires comprehensive documentation verification and compliance management. The candidate will verify the validity of statutory and company-required certificates before deployment, ensure documents remain valid throughout contract periods, cross-check sea service records, CDC details, passport validity and certification requirements, maintain document records as per the Company Document and Certificate Matrix, and ensure accurate candidate records are maintained within crew management systems.
The position will also ensure training and certification compliance by verifying mandatory STCW certifications, vessel-specific training requirements and familiarization needs. Coordination with candidates for renewal of expiring certificates and ensuring compliance with company and client requirements are key responsibilities.
The Sourcing Officer will maintain regular communication with seafarers regarding availability, documentation, joining schedules and deployment status. The role involves providing updates to Masters, Superintendents and internal stakeholders, coordinating with travel, training and documentation teams for smooth onboarding and responding promptly to vessel manpower requests and operational requirements.
Candidates should possess a strong understanding of maritime ranks and rating categories, knowledge of STCW certification requirements, familiarity with crew management systems and maritime databases, working knowledge of MLC 2006 requirements and proficiency in MS Excel, Word and Outlook. The ideal candidate will demonstrate high accountability, attention to detail, proactive problem-solving ability, strong follow-up skills and the capability to work effectively in a fast-paced shipping environment with global coordination across vessels and crew.
